The Promoting Better Practice Review Program was undertaken by the Office of Local Government from 2004 until 2014. The aim of the Program was to assist in strengthening the local government sector by providing councils with the opportunity to reflect on the systems, policies and procedures contributing to their overall performance.

The reviews were designed to act as a ‘health check’ which examined the extent to which there were appropriate strategies, policies, systems and procedures in place at the strategic and operational level.

Councils continue to build on the checklist that was developed for the Program and utilise the learning from the reports that were produced.
