The Office of Local Government, together with local government sector representatives, has started on work to build a new performance measurement framework for councils.

This work seeks to move away from compliance-based reporting and focus on a small set of core, consistent indicators that will help communities understand how well their council is performing. The new performance measurement framework aims to have a strong focus on supporting councils to actively manage and improve their organisation’s performance.

The framework is being built in close collaboration with the local government sector. Local Government NSW, Local Government Australia, NSW and a number of councils are participating on a steering committee for the project as well as working groups to develop the performance measures.

To inform this work we have sought feedback from councils and the broader community about the approach being taken.

Work is continuing on the Performance Measurement Framework.
