On 8 August 2024 the NSW Government signed with Local Government NSW, on behalf of the NSW local government sector, a new Intergovernmental Agreement.

The new agreement, among other features:

• reaffirms the Government’s commitment to working in partnership with local government to achieve strong communities;
• acknowledges strategic policy priorities and plans for NSW;
• sets out key partnership principles, roles and responsibilities and arrangements for how each sphere of government will work together; and
• sets out key commitments to financial sustainability of local government and democratic local government.
