Petty Antics, Childish Behaviour: Council Inquiries

Three independent public inquiries into NSW Councils have found petty rivalries, childish behaviour and self-interest, Local Government Minister Gabrielle Upton said today.

Reports into North Sydney Council, the former Auburn and Murray Shire councils were tabled in the NSW Parliament today.

Ms Upton said the reports from these inquiries were a reminder some councils, mayors, councillors and staff had failed the test of delivering for their communities.

“For a few – it is about them – instead of what is in the community's best interests. Petty rivalries, unruly and childish behaviour in council meetings and shoddy practices must be banished from our Councils forever,” Ms Upton said.

“The Government will consider the recommendations in greater detail. I also will provide these reports to the Independent Commission against Corruption and other appropriate bodies for their consideration.”  Read more...
