Swimming Pool Barrier Review 2015

The NSW Government is committed to protecting the safety of young children in and around backyard swimming pools in NSW.

In 2015, the NSW Government commissioned an independent review by Mr Michael Lambert of the effectiveness of the swimming pool barrier regulatory framework.

The NSW Government Response focuses on strengthening our commitment to minimising drowning risks for children around backyard pools on two fronts:

  1. Increasing targeted education focusing on vigilant and responsible adult supervision of young children in and around backyard pools at all times as the first line of defence.
  2. Strengthening the regulatory framework for swimming pool barriers to minimise the risk of child drownings while not imposing a significant net cost on the community.
